Rockfield House, Delgany

Rockfield House was a small gentleman’s country house with gate lodge built c1800 and is today a ruin. The ruin is located south of Farrankelly in the townland of Priestnewtown, between Kilquade and Delgany.

The main house is recorded in the Griffiths valuation as being occupied by Grey Price and the gate lodge by Charles Doyle. The Immediate Lessor was Sir St Vincent K H Whitshed Bart. This was Guy Price, who died 1867 in Delgany Guy was married to Eliza nee Hannagan and they had son Guy William Price. Guy was born in Queens County in 1787 and was the son of Captain James Price. Guy Prices daughter Margaret S Price died in Bray in 1897. In 1895 James M’Glashan recorded as of Rockfield, Delgany and in 1897 Peter M’Glashen was recorded of Rockfield Delgany. James was a farmer and was the son of Peter McGlashan who was a builder. Rockfield was later acquired by the Evans family of Farrankelly House.
