The author Aidan Charles Higgins grew up in Springfield House near Celbridge Co Kildare. He was born in 1927 and was the son of Bartholomew Higgins. His parents moved to Greystones in the early 1940’s and resided at a house called Caragh. Aidan was educated at Clongowes Wood College. He after leaving school he went to London and while in London and met his wife Jill Damaris nee Anders. With Jill and the John Wrights Company he toured Europe, Rhodesia and South Africa. He later lived in South Africa before moving to Spain, then Germany and back to London. From London he resided in Connemara in Co Galway. He later moved to Kinsale in County Cork and died in December 2015 in Kinsale.

Notable works of Aidan Higgins include Langrishe Go Down (1966), Balcony of Europe and Bornholn Night-Ferry. He also published short stories and travel writing books. His works have been translated into many languages.
