Ina Boyle was born Selina Adelaide Phillipa Boyle on the 8th of March 1889 in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, the daughter of Rev William Foster Boyle a curate in Enniskerry and his wife Philippa Augusta nee Jephson. Ina was raised in Enniskerry at Bushey Park and much of her life was spent at Bushey Park.

Boyle was originally studied composition privately and published her first compositions in 1915. In 1928 she went to London to study under Ralph Vaughan Williams. Before Boyle died her deepest regret was that alot of her music was not published or played. Today her manuscripts and scores can be seen in Trinity College Dublin. She died aged 77 in 1969 at Castle Clare in Greystones.

Her works include choral works for orchestra, a symphony, string quartets, three ballets and the opera ‘Maudlin of Paplewick’ (1964-1966). In 1919 she won a Carnegie Trust award for her orchestral work “The magic Harp”.
