Florence Ross (Artist 1870 - 1949)

Florence Agnes Ross was born in November 1870 in Dalkey the daughter of Reverend William Stewart Ross and Agnes nee Traill, she was the cousin and close friend of J M Synge. Her brother was a doctor named William Ross, who later resided at Greystones. Her mother died in 1891 aged 59. William was a doctor in Tonga and Florence went to Tonga to help her brother and family while he was in the Friendly Islands in Tonga. Florence exhibited regularly in Dublin and later took up residence in Greystones, residing at Balmoral on Trafalgar Road in Greystones. She died in Hospital in Dublin in 1949.

Work

Ross painted primarily landscapes in watercolour, which she exhibited with the Watercolour Society of Ireland. Her work can be seen in the Hugh Lane Gallery Dublin, The South Tipperary County Museum and the in the Waterford municipal collection.
